hi guys

It appears as though this will be the first post in this community in over a month...well, maybe it will serve as the impetus for a spirited, vigorous discussion that will not only resuscitate this community, but drive it to the top of the LJ charts! ok, probably not, but still, I like to think big.

Anyway, Hi, My name is Michael. I'm a piano performance major at the cleveland institute of music, and I am hell-bent on making piano performance my career, even if it means living off of pasta and canned tuna for the rest of my life. My very incomplete list of pianistic heroes includes Vladimir Horowitz, Artur Rubinstein, Sergei Rachmaninov, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Claudio Arrau, Murray Perahia, Radu Lupu, Myra Hess, Benno Moisevich, Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Krysian Zimmerman, and...okay, okay, I'll you can see, I don't like to narrow these things down.

Anyway, I was happy to stumble upon this community, so I hope that it isn't completely dead. :-)

11 hours later, and here I am.

You and I have many of the same favorite pianists. Of the living ones, Zimerman is supposed to come to Cleveland this season. See him if you can, as he's apparently not in good health.

Was listening to Perahia's Bach on the way in to work this morning. I really enjoy his Bach--and that of his teacher Horszowski, whom I met--more than Glenn Gould's (THAT should start some debate).

No disagreement here...Although I have enormous respect for Glenn Gould's playing, it is very acdemic and calculated playing. (Although he does have the capacity for being highly expressive...his 6th partita is very moving). I heard Perahia's Goldberg variations live in Ann Arbor 4 years ago; that remains one of the most memorable concerts I've ever attended.

Are you serious? I wanted to see him in Chicago last spring, but he cancelled...I hope that he ends up following through with this you have any idea what he will be playing?
